Finally! Your album is out today! Can you tell us a bit about it?
It’s been a long long time coming. It’s been a bitch to get here, after being signed to a major at 17 to the point I’m at now at 25. I’ve written hundreds of songs in that time frame and I’m only about to release 13. That’s weird. I have a lot of unreleased shit I want to put out. It’s taken me ages to accept the music industry for what it really is and how it works. I don’t believe it’s healthy for artists but it’s a game you have to play if you want to be part of it.

What’s your favourite lyric on the album?
“You’ve been there when I’ve lost my mind, you’ve been there every other time. Between the devil and the deep blue sea – deep in the love you feel for me” from St. Elmo’s Fire. I know that’s quite a soppy lyric compared to a lot of the stuff on the record but I really fucking meant it. I’ve been so up and down my whole life with my mental health and the people who’ve stuck by me I owe so much to. There wouldn’t be this record if people had lost faith in me like I had done with myself and pulled me back from self destructing.

If you were to describe the album in one word, what would it be?
Intricate.

What’s the best memory you have about making music?
I love playing to big festival crowds when the crowd aren’t pussys and actually get into a show there’s not really a feeling like that. Being in the studio recording the record this year as well was amazing. Just two weeks of being in the studio trying stuff out and being creative that’s when I feel most alive creatively.

What are your plans for 2017?
Release the album, Forgotten Pleasures, and then tour the shit out of it. I can’t wait to get back out to Europe to play shows and do all the festivals. I’ve also started writing for the next record and I’ve been working with other artists as a writer so a lot of stuff like that I’ve been involved with will be out this year. I’ll wipe the slate clean for 2017 and I’m gonna move my ass. Watch this space.
